We left Bali this morning and flew to
Sumatra. Now we're sitting at the tiny airport in Medan, waiting for
our backpacks which went to Jakarta for some weird reason instead of
following us. But if everything goes as we've been told, our luggage
should be here around 21:30, only 2 hours late. I keep my fingers
crossed it's true because our plan was to still continue to lake Toba
tonight and the drive should take around 5-6 hours...

Life has been treating us very well
again. We went to Nusa Lembongan, which is a nice small island close
to Bali, only an hour away by slow boat. The Jollas boys who were
supposed to go to Sumbawa from Lombok changed their plans since it
has been pretty restless there lately so it would've been a bit of a
risk to hang out there as a tourist, so they followed us to Lembongan
and we spent another five days together. Nusa Lembongan is one of
those places where time goes by fast even when doing nothing (especially if you're doing that nothing in a very good company). We
went surfing twice and snorkeling once, but otherwise it was just
about hanging out and laughing and eating and drinking coffee in the
sunset. On our last day we booked a snorkeling trip, and it was
absolutely fantastic. I've been snorkeling a few times before, but
this trip was by far the best one; it started from a bay where the
water was amazingly clear and you could see all the way to the bottom
of the sea, it was maybe 6-8 meters deep. And every morning huge
mantas (jattilaisrauskut) go to that bay and swim around. We saw
maybe five of them, and it felt so surreal, swimming in the clear water,
watching those weird but beautiful creatures swimming around or under
you. So magical. I'm not too interested in diving, and if it's
possible to see things like this with just snorkeling equipment, that
is enough for me. We went to four snorkeling places in total, and
they were all very good, colorful fishes and deep blue corals
everywhere, and the most perfect possible water for snorkeling. It
was super funny when we went snorkeling to the 3rd spot,
which was next to a tourist boat full of Japanese tourists and they
were throwing food to the fishes to come to the surface and then they
took photos of the fishes. Jussi went snorkeling in the middle of all
these big fishes and Japanese people took tens and tens of photos of
him from the deck of the tourist boat, such a good troll. Would be
nice to know how many Japanese photo albums he ended up in.

Low tide + seaweed |

Nusa Lembongan has beautiful beaches
and beautiful sunsets and a very easy-going atmosphere, not much
nightlife or anything. There are seaweed farms and during the low
tide it's possible to see all the locals picking up seaweed from the
bottom of the sea and bringing it to the beach to dry. On the next
island there are cliff jumping spots, but we didn't find them, so we
just went to a beach instead. The surfing spot at Lembongan called
Lacerations was quite good,
before going there we had heard it's not a place for beginners, but
it still was good for us. The sea is very shallow there and there's
dead coral on the bottom, so you might hurt yourself, but obviously
we are already professional enough not to get hurt ;D Or maybe we
were just lucky, who knows. Anyway it felt wonderful to get on a surf
board again and spend a day in the water. It was even better when we
had Jollas boys trolling us – surfing is a lot more fun with a
bunch of friends. I guess those were the last surfs of my trip this
time, but luckily I still have time for the rest of my life to surf
again. That's something I'll definitely do.
