Good people, bad people

In this picture you can see my computer, a campaign poster of Mr. Wong, the two DVDs he gave me, my chocolate
calendar (so many days have already been opened! Time goes too fast!)  and my first lost and then found Nokia.
Last week was as busy as I said before. Between the presentations I had some time for fun things as well. On Tuesday we went to Mr. Wong's for dinner, and the owner of that place just makes me so happy every time, he is one of the nicest people I have ever met, he is just so genuinely nice to people he has never met before and probably even won't meet again. This time we were talking about musicals (Mr. Wong absolutely loves musicals), and then he gave me two musicals on DVD, just because he likes them and thinks that everyone should see them. He told me he bought 40 DVDs just so that he could give them to students who eat at his restaurant, apparently because according to him, "it's better to watch a nice movie together with friends than to go out and spend your money on alcohol in Wan Chai or Lan Kwai Fong". He also arranges barbecue parties at his own flat for exchange students free of charge - and he is not even there himself! We know these Austrians who went to one of these parties, and Mr. Wong had just given the key to his apartment for some German exchange students and put all the food and beer ready, and then there were 12 people just eating and drinking for the whole evening, and they left before Mr. Wong got home. When we asked why does he do such nice things, he said it's because "most of the students are here with their parents money, I don't want your parents money, I can give you food!". Such an amazing person. It is hard for me to understand that somebody is being so nice with no hidden agenda behind it all, because at least in Europe it is not normal to be so indulgent towards so many random people. Slowly I'm starting to understand that it is possible to have people like him in this world. I wish you could all get the chance to meet him, but sadly he said he will close his restaurant in the end of the year to get some holiday, but he might open it again later in some other location.

So after the dinner I felt very nice and happy, it's impossible to leave Mr. Wong's with a sad face. We went to a bar, and then a drunk Australian idiot stole my phone. My good mood was gone in seconds. He tried to steal my money as well but I caught him doing this, so I got all my money back, but I didn't realize my phone was gone before we got into the taxi. Luckily he probably had realized that my old crappy Nokia is worth nothing and he had left it somewhere in the bar, where a local dude had found it. I tried to call my phone maybe 10 times, and finally someone answered, and they said they could leave it to the bar so that I could pick it up the next day. Hong Kong is such a safe place, and it really doesn't surprise me that when something like this happens, it's a western person doing it. I was so angry afterwards, but when I got my phone back the next day all I could think was that it's good there's so many nice people to compensate the assholes (like this Australian one) in this world. First meeting someone as awesome as Mr. Wong, then meeting this pathetic Australian creature, but then in the end some good honest person just left my phone at the bar when I asked him to. I guess not all hope is gone in this world?

So what did we learn from this? Not even in Hong Kong everyone is trustworthy (surprise!). And watch after your bag at all times. This episode worked as a good wake-up call since I didn't really lose anything in the end, and I've been pretty care-free with my belongings so far. Not anymore.
