Back to Hong Kong for a while, more Shanghai posts are yet to come :P
It might be surprising but Hong Kong actually has plenty of beautiful nature, lush landscapes, and hiking tracks to explore, both in the north and south when you get out of the city. On Friday we headed to the waterfalls of Ng Tung Chai. Before this I had asked some local students if they had ever been there, and what I got as an answer was "There are waterfalls in Hong Kong??"
Seems like a global phenomenon that often tourists explore the city more thoroughly than the locals.
There were all in all four waterfalls, which all had the same water flowing but just at different parts of the mountain. I only made it to the bottom fall & the middle fall, but for me that was enough for one day. The track was extremely steep at times, the air was crazy humid, and climbing up felt like doing sport exercise in a sauna. During the hike we only saw one other person in the jungle, so it was not only refreshing for the body to get some fresh air but also for the mind to get some peace and quiet and smell the nature. You know how in a big city like Hong Kong, everyday life is so departed from nature. Don't get me wrong - I am definitely a city girl myself - but still it makes me sad to see how people nowadays have no clue about anything that's natural. It's not just in Hong Kong, it's everywhere! You only see animals in a zoo, not running around free how it's supposed to be. You have no idea where your food comes from since you just go to a shop and buy it in a plastic package. Almost everybody (especially females) uses shitloads of make-up, have fake hair, fake eye lashes, fake nails, fake everything... You sit hours and hours in front of a computer or watching television and your body doesn't like that at all, because that's not what human body is designed for.
If people are already like this, can you imagine what it will be like in 100 years? :P

Waterfalls are awesome. These were not the best ones I've seen though, but still, waterfalls are always great. If you decide to go, bring a lot to drink, something to eat, swimming suit + extra pair of socks to change.
